Hold On To Summer

It's still summer despite  people guzzling those pumpkin spice lattes and rifling through their casserole recipes.  Hold on to the season with august harvests from the yard and farmer's markets. Don't put away the grill It's still barbecue season too.

You can still enjoy just picked tomatoes and peppers even though you're packing those school lunches. Use those late summer beefsteaks for  those same lunches. Everyone lives a good old fashioned tomato sandwich on toast and slathered with mayo. They're also good for Saturday lunch BLT's or for a Sunday beach picnic. A quick week day dinner involves those fresh ones along with freshly picked basil in a salsa cruda. This is an uncooked sauce made an hour or two before the pasta is cooked. It's left out to marinate in olive oil at room tempeature. It's a great sauce epsecially when served with chunky pasta like rotelli. Grilled veggies can be made outdoors until the first very cold snap (and beyond if you're hardy)Think sliced bell peppers and eggplant brushed with olive oil and dusted with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Farms are still offering ears of fresh corn. Get  them and create tasty Mexican street corn with them. The kernals are also good in a cold fiesta salad with diced red and green peppers. If you are in the mood for making soup then think of the summery gazpacho. This is perfect to make for the still steamy days ahead. It's combining tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers  and olive oil, water and garlic in a soup that is chilled for a few hours.

You may get the urge to ditch the barbecue and make an oven roast. Think again about this unless you have really good air conditioning. We will still have ninety degree days in  many parts of the US. London Broil is a winter meat that' graced many a Christmas and New Year's table but it's also a great grill meat. You could easily grill it after marinating it in a mix of olive oil, red wine vinegar and garlic. Slice it an d serve it on fremch or Italian bread for a delcious sandwich. Another fall roast favorite Cornish hens can also be grill roasted too. Rub with melted butter and lemon and add thyme to the insides for a flavorful bite. Usually both the beef and poulty are good with mashed potatoes but serve grilled baked potatoes instead. You will have to preheat the grill to 315 degrees Farenheit. ( most grills now have thermometers in them to let you know the temperature) and then rub  them in olive oil and salt and then wrape them in foil. Cook thirty to forty mimutes or until a skewer pierces them with no resistance. Cut in half and serve with butter and sour cream. As far as dessert, have s'mores . These are still fun to eat and if you do want a fall vibe. sprinkle with pumpkin pie spice before you put on the top graham cracker.

Hold on to summer cooking. Make a cooling soup like gazpacho. fire up the grill Have a tomato sandwich. It's still warm weather. Embrace it.

A Rainy Day Barbecue

Can you still have that barbecue on a damp August day? Yes!It's easy to bring the outdoors inside . You cna still have tasty favorites in the comfort of a dry home.

A barbecue starts off with a grill and you can easily buy an indoor one at Target or Walmart. They come either square or round and at a variety of prices too.Invest in one if you like the taste of barbecued meats and veggies all year round. Another easy option is the air fryer. You may not get that smoky  mesquite or hickory taste that cooking over an open flame brings but the food will still be crisp.Try pork ribs with a tangy barbecue sauce. You will have to cut them into smaller pieces to fit your air fryer's basket. It's them marinating them in your favorite sauce and wrapping the pieces in foil. Cook them for thirty minutes at 380 degrees Farenheit. After the half hour unwrap them and  then let them brown in the  air fryer basket for another ten minutes, again at 380 degrees Farenheit. Make sure that the basket is well sprayed with cooking spray. ( use the olive oil flavored spray for this); Hamburgers and hot dogs can also beneft from air fryer cooking. To be honest I think both come out crispier on the outside and juicier on the inside than ones cooked on the grill.

Veggies can also be cooked on an indoor grill or  in the air fryer. Marinated asparagus spears are always a good side. You can also grill tomatoes - perfect on Italian or French bread with a little olive oil and oregano. What about that classic barbecue staple corn? Yes, the ears can be cooked nicely in an air fryer. You may have to cut the ends off the ribs in order to makw them fit but that depends on the size of your basket. Layer them side by side for an  even grill and remember don't stack them on top of each other. Drizzle olive oil or melted butter on top. ( you can add more butter later for a really buttery taste) and air fry for eight minutes at 380 degrees Farenheit. Roll them over halfway through the cooking so they're perfectly roasted and golden all over. As with an outdoor barbecue make sure there are salads too. You can easily whip up a three bean or a tasty pasta salad to go with the main course. For dessert you can still make s'mores but this time use the air fryer (make sure the basket is thoroughly washed out though) . It;s slicing the marshmallows in half , and placing the sticky side on the graham cracker. Make four of these and then place in the air fryer. Cook at 390 degrees Farenheit for five minutes. Add a square of any kind of chocolate and then top with another graham cracker.

Let the summer rains come. YOu can still have a fun barbecue but an indoor one. It's a fun way to chase a rainy day away.

An Old Fashioned Summer Birthday

Summer birthday's are always special. It's a day full of sun, sand and presents. Not only that it's full of fun food , classic fare that works well no matter what age you're turning.

Of course a warm weather birthday means one thing - barbecue. Two of the most classic dishes to serve are hamburgers and hot dogs. These are perfect because they're easy to make and are always a crowd pleaser. Hamburgers could be homemade or bought in cases like the Bubba Burger. A traditional hamburger recipe starts with lean ground beef mixed with Worcester sauce and garlic powder. You can add a beaten egg along with bread crumbs for more body and chopped onion for more flavor.(this last will give it the same flavor as what you get at Mc Donald's ).Already made burgers, including the vegan Beyond Beef ones are also a good choice and an easy cook on the grill. For a birthday party, have a fixings bar that has sliced onions , tomatoes, pickles and lettuce. You could also add already cooked bacon to this and slices of cheddar cheese. Create  a special sauce like Burger King and McDonald's .This is easy blend of ketchup, mayo, swee t pickle relish and white vinegar.A tiny pinch of sugar is also added. As for the hot dogs, these are just fine grilled plain. You could brush them with melted butter before cooking for a crispier texture.

Sides should be the classic potato salad along with three bean. The first should stick to tradition, with the potatoes being mixed with  chopped celery and hard boiled eggs. Dress in mayo and season with a little bit of sea salt and freshly ground pepper. Three bean salad can be made of the birthday celebrant's favorite beans, A popular mix is kidney, garbanzo or chick peas and white cannellini beans. The dressing is a sweet and sour one, made with oil ,apple cider vinegar and a bit of sugar or honey. A fun classic barbecue treat are devilled eggs. It's not only a tasty party food but is a perfect appetizer for a barbecue. A summer birthday demands for an ice cream cake. This can be made two ways . You can bake a cake and then layer on ice cream as the filling. Frost with whipped cream. The second recipe is pure ice cream layered with a crunchy mix of Nabisco chocolate wafers crushed and mixed with melted butter.Layer this and one or two flavors of ice cream before freezing. Add sprinkles  for a more  festive touch before serving . End the party with s'mores under the stars.

A summer birthday party should be full of good classic summer time barbecue foods. The grill should be fired,. There should be favorite and easy to make salads. Dessert should be  spectacular with large slices of ice cream cake followed by s'mores. It's a birthday wish come true,

A Cup of Tea And Kindness

With everything that's going on it'snice just to offer a cup of tea and kindness. If you have a neighbor ,friend or family member who just wants to talk let them. Brew up a cup and let them express their thoughts and feelings.

This is what we need to do these days. We are a country - a world divided and we need to close up those rapidly opening seams. We need to be more understanding to the other side as well as those close to us.Food and drink brings us together. What tea works? Any one. Try a fruity one like Celestial Seasonings lemon zinger or their peach ones. Peppermint tea is also good, not just for soothing hurt or anxious feelings but for calming an upset stomach. Inviting someone over for a cup of tea is great if he or she wants to our their heart out. However a thermos of tea, especially iced works as well. Go to the beach or the park. There's something beautiful and distracting about nature whether it's waves crashing on the shore or looking up to see trees gently waving their branches.Of course coffee is always a good drink to have. Don't discount going out for a decadent cup of iced coffee. There's always Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts to supply you with a creamy , caramel or chocolate laced iced java. Even just a latte is a great boost. Sip and talk at a table or on a bench. You can also head to the park where it;s quieter and you have some privacy.

It's not just a cup of tea that's comforting. Kindness can be inviting someone over for a barbecue or a lovely meal eaten outdoors. The person may want to eat , especially comfort foods. Make hamburgers and hot dogs. Grill some veggies. Make that ultimate  comfort food s'mores. There is nothing more soothing than that yummy mix of toasted marshmallow oozing onto melty chocolate a top a graham cracker. Make it truly indulgent by using chocolate graham crackers and good dark chocolate. You could also just toast marshmallows over a fire pit. Another  way is baking  to go with that tea. We're in the middle of fruit season and that means cobblers, and crisps. Bring over a peach cobbler or blueberry crisp. Cobblers are easy to make so even the most novice baker can create something near perfection. It's just combining milk flour and sugar and placing it over melted butter in a cast iron skillet. The fruit, usually peaches, is added to this and tossed about in the flour. It's put into the oven and baked until the batter turns brown and crusty. A crisp is similar except it has oatmeal and cinnamon in it.

These are tough times. We're at each other's throats more often than not. It's take to share a cup of tea - a cup of coffee or a meal and be there for each other.

All Those Easter Leftovers

The day after Easter means ones thing -- leftovers. what do you do with all that ham, lambs and sides? What about that extra candy and sweets? Get creative ? THere's a ton of new recipes you can try with all that food.

Ham can be turned into tasty hot Croque Monsiurs or a cold, refreshing salad. For the French classic, you can cut the ham extra thick for a heartier sandwich. It would also go well in a grilled cheese too.As for a ham salad, prepare it like you would  a tuna salad. Add mayo along with chopped celery and onions. For added flavor serve on Hawaiian rolls. Their sweetness will offset the ham's saltiness. You can also turn it into a main meal by combining it with rotelli or elbow macaroni. Add peas, chopped carrots and broccoli florets to round it out. As for the dressing you can stick with just mayonnaise or create an Italian dressing to pour over it. What to do with that leftover lamb? Shepherd's pie is a nice way of repurposing it. You can even use those leftover mashed potatoes as the crust. Fill it with chopped carrots and onions along with celery and thyme. A lamb curry is also a great recipe for what's left of that roast leg. It's a great time to experiment that garam masala and curry powder. Serve with warmed naan and yogurt for a different spin on dinner.

You probably also have all that leftover candy too. it may sound strange but you can add chopped jelly beans to a cookie recipe. You could also incorporate them into a fudge if you like a super sweet bite. What about those other super sweet Easter treats - Peeps. A really neat idea is Peeps popcorn balls. This is melting down those chicks and adding plain salted popcorn. To make them even more fun, put  a lollipop stick in them and have a new kind of treat. What about Peeps s'mores? Use that leftover chocolate along with the Peeps on a skewer(think rotisserie Peeps, heated to gooiness over a stove top. Serve on either plain or chocolate Graham crackers. You could also heat just the bottoms and place on cupcakes for a different kind of topping. if those bunnies and eggs  haven't been completely devoured, break them into little bits and serve over anything and everything. They're fun mixed in with hot oatmeal or cold cereal. A layer of them is an extra kick in an ice cream parfait or sundae.

Those holiday leftovers can be repurposed into new and exciting meals and desserts. it's a fun way to reuse them and enjoy them a second time.  Try them  to still celebrate the holiday in a new way.

A Comforting Classic Graham Crackers

Everyone has nostalgic memories about Graham crackers. They are still the ultimate comfort snack along with being versatile in a number of recipes. This American favorite is a must have kitchen staple.

Graham crackers are truly a US invention. It was through the influence of vegetarian, temperance leader and preacher Sylvester Graham that these sweet crackers came to be. His followers were called Grahamites and Graham flours Graham crackers and even Graham bread was created for them. The shared ingredients in all three was coarsely ground whole wheat flour that gives the crackers their distinctive deep tan color. This was supposed to be healthier than finely ground white flour and believed to be a preventative against the 1829-1859 cholera epidemic. Graham crackers became so popular that Herman Melville mentioned them in his 1856 novel Pierre or The Ambiguities. They were easy to mass produce thanks to the simple ingredients of graham flour, oil, molasses, and lard. The molasses gives it that special sweet flavor along with fermented yeast added during mass production.. Nabisco started manufacturing them as early as 1898 and was in competition a decade later with the Loose-wiles Biscuit Company. In recent decades variations were added. Now we not only have the original but also cinnamon sugar topped ones and chocolate Graham crackers. Shapes like bunnies and bears have been added in the last thirty years.

As we all know Graham crackers are versatile. They make for the perfect after school or evening snack with milk or tea. The packets are perfect to take along to school or on picnics. The ultimate Graham cracker creation is the s'mores. It's a fun bite of marshmallows and a broken chocolate bar sandwiched between two crackers. You can make this really decadent by using the chocolate version and  80  % dark chocolate. Doing this cuts the marshmallows' sweetness and emphasizes the deep cocoa flavor.Graham cracker crusts have long been used in pies and cheesecakes. It's a simple mix of finely ground crumbs mixed with melted butter, white sugar and cinnamon. This crust works best with summery pies like Key Lime or lemon meringue. It also works for pudding filled pies like coconut cream and chocolate. They also work in ice box cakes too.Layer them with any kind of pudding and them top with either Cool Whip or whip cream based frosting. A sweet dessert perfect for a Saturday or Sunday gathering is chocolate graham crackers layered with a quick chocolate mousse of Cool Whip and instant chocolate pudding. Frost with Cool Whip and them grate dark chocolate over the top.

Graham crackers are the classic American comfort food. enjoy a plate of them with cold milk or hot tea or coffee. Use them as crusts or bases for pies and ice box cakes. They are versatile and perfect for snacking.

Parcels Of Love

There are still many who are alone during this pandemic. They remain inside or yard bound . sometimes they're alone , eating and drinking by themselves. It's time to reach out  with parcels. These will bring a smile to anyone's face.

Food parcels are easy and fun to create. What's great about them right now is using the bounty of the season, Those voluntarily shut in would appreciate fresh tomatoes for sandwiches along with squash and eggplant, perfect for frying or ratatouille. Also an extra treat would be bags of fresh picked basil and dill along with other herbs. You could also create a barbecue themed parcel, with hamburgers or hot dogs along with rolls and ready made salads. If you can, stay and join them for the cook out. A shared meal, especially a barbecue is always welcome and can be turned into an entertaining night, even if it is just for two.Include graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate for s'more later on. Sandwiches are also a great bring over. Buy or make heroes and bring along chips or cherry tomatoes. Join the person (or people) for some talk and company. This will go a long way and buoy their spirits. Another idea is  ordering from the person's favorite restaurant. You could just order appetizers or a full meal along with a dessert for each.

A question that may be asked is should you bring alcohol? The pandemic has made many feel hopeless and anxious, stressed about all aspects of their futures. A bottle or can helps to relax and unfortunately a few have been emptying a bottle or two a night. I would say go with soda or sparkling water to accompany a meal. There's nothing wrong with bringing some iced coffees or teas that you can sip. As the weather gets cooler, then bring pumpkin spice lattes or hot cocoa. These are better. No one gets drunk or even sick. You may want to address the wine or beer indulgence if you're worried about the person. Just go easy and be subtle.Another way is introducing mocktails. These can be made at home and brought over in a container or thermos or made fresh at the person's house. Have Virgin Marys' with a breakfast sandwich or a Virgin Pina Colada with ribs or tacos. Bring the ingredients which are juices, different herbs and seltzer. If you're celebrating a birthday or just want a fun fizzy drink then think a non alcoholic champagne. Pair it with  something lush to eat like a shrimp cocktail or a small tin of caviar.

There are many shut ins these days. They are eating, and at times drinking alone. Bring them something tasty and fun to alleviate the loneliness, Stay for their company and food.

Hurricane Hampers

Bad enough we still have a pandemic to deal with, we now have hurricanes. What makes it worse is that we can't really rely on friends, family and neighbors now for food or supplies. We have to build our own stores , with whatever we have around.

One of the worse things about any bad storm is that the electricity is usually cut off. That means all that frozen food you stocked up on may go bad. Keep in mind that those burgers can be grilled on your barbecue (which may be your only way of cooking for a few days).Frozen veggies can be thawed out and boiled for sides or then cooled for salads. Also have a hurricane hamper or cooler where you can put any of the frozen packages for a few days. Store your milk and dairy here as well as your eggs. Nearby streams can also be used for refrigeration. Just make sure the wildlife doesn't get to the food first. Eggs  should be used first, whether in dishes or as scrambled and omelets. Refrigerated eggs can easily turn bad and the yolks and whites become breeding ground for bacteria. The shell doesn't even have to be broken. Try also, to cook the leftovers first. They too can turn bad quickly. Repurpose them into different dishes with different spins. Again these can be reheated on your outdoor grill. Just put them into foil packets and roast for fifteen to twenty minutes.

As for your hurricane hamper. make sure you have enough for three meals. Think beef , chicken, pork or turkey jerky for lunch or dinner. They provides protein as well as something filling. There are several different brands such as Jack Links and Oberto's, the last features turkey.  Some cold cuts such as pepperoni will keep too and make great fillings for sandwiches.Cheeses will keep without refrigeration and, are again excellent sources of protein. The kids will love any kind of cheddar but adults will appreciate Gouda and Edam. Have crackers and bread for the slices and squares. Veggies will keep for a few days and should be added to the hurricane hamper.Salad dressings don't have to be refrigerated and you can buy a few to liven up the  produce. You can also make your own with using olive oil, any kind of vinegar and different herbs and spices. Try a garlic infused one with red wine vinegar or a honey one with apple cider vinegar.Veggies can be grilled too. Stock up on grillables like eggplant, tomatoes, cauliflower and onions These can be turned into tasty sheet pan meals or spins on ratatouille. Ice cream is off the table but you can satisfy sweet tooths with fresh fruit such as cherries, blueberries and peaches. These will keep. Another treats are cookies and for a healthier bite graham crackers. Get marshmallows and chocolate to make a special treat s'mores. These will be a welcome bite.

Hurricane hampers are a must during these strange days. Be prepared. Be stocked up and ready for whatever the weather brings you.

Food Unifies Us

It cannot be said often enough about how food is a great uniter. Breaking bread allows us to see each other in a different, less confrontational light. We need to have more  socially distanced community dinners and picnics. Coming together over a plate of something is better than having that plate thrown at us.

Of course there should be more discourse however for now we should think of having town or block funded barbecues where law enforcement is invited. If cops  got to see how neighborhoods are , maybe there wouldn't be so much fear - yes fear - and prejudice on their part. Inviting them over for burgers and dogs isn't such a bad idea. They can get ideas about how to patrol and what they're looking at if they know the people. This is also a good concept for churches to follow too. Now that the weather is warmer , gatherings can be held outside to allow for social distancing. Imagine it like a big pot luck where people bring main dishes and sides along with desserts. Other congregations can also be invited. They too can bring different foods, reflecting religious and ethnic backgrounds. Not only is it a chance to come together but try recipes that are out of their comfort zone. Baked mac can be served alongside kugel and falafel. Kids can snack on cotton candy or baklava.  Individual barbecues can be set up for s'mores and toasted marshmallows.

Since cops are also our first responders, we need to remember the efforts and sacrifices they make during this ongoing pandemic. It's nothing to whip up a batch of cupcakes and homemade icing for your town's finest. Make an ice box cake if the weather is too hot. Another idea is sending pizza and prepared meals from your local pizzerias and restaurants. You'll be helping eateries in the area as well as providing a hot lunch or dinner for the force. If you have a neighbor who works on the force, treat them and their families to something, whether a cake or extra spaghetti and sauce.  They'll appreciate the gesture and the fact that you're behind them. As social gathering restrictions get lifted invite them over for a backyard meal. It's a great time to talk and find out about who they are and what's going on in your area. It's also the perfect time to suggest starting mentoring multiracial youth groups and having a police backed baseball or football team. Also tell them what you've seen in town and if there is a need for improvement.

Food will always unite us. If we start a dialogue, then it needs to be over a hamburger or a slice of cake. Eating brings us together - which is what we need right now.

The First Barbecue of The Season

With Memorial Day comes barbecues and guests. The barbecue is usually the first of the season. For some it's their first planned barbecue. What will be on the menu? New dishes or traditional? Recipes that are more nutritional or fun?

This is what I will be dealing with since this is my first planned barbecue in a long time. I still have to get a grill. It'll probably come from Wal-Mart and be something simple. This has to be easy to store too (unless we have a warm winter ahead of us and then there's some extra barbecue days). Another point to ponder - do I go with easy to use but carcinogenic charcoal or fragrant but hard to light at times wood chips.I would like to go with the wood chips , because they are safer along with giving the meat a lovely flavor. Then there is that question. Vegan or meat. I will probably go with the first.Target has Beyond Beef which will probably be the patty of choice. This looks and tastes like the real thing and it's the one food I want to try. Now comes the bun question. Do I go with the sweet Hawaiian ones or the doughy , crusty sesame seed kind. Luckily the condiment is straight forward. Ketchup - mustard, maybe tomato slices and possibly grilled romaine leaves.I'll also have some slices of soy cheddar for cheeseburgers.

One of the biggest headaches to tackle is what to serve as sides.Three bean salad? Not a good choice for guests with stomach problems. Tomato salad is always a good choice but so is string bean salad, especially if fresh ones are used.Potato salad  is a barbecue must, yet it comes with a few question marks.Do I get it from the store where it is good or do I make the family one that is a bit elaborate to create. The last comes with chopped celery and sliced hard boiled eggs. There is a Sicilian style that I'd like to try - it has cherry tomatoes and sliced red onions. A vinaigrette is subbed in for the mayo. There is still a lot of work  to it, not as much as the traditional recipe however. The only cooking comes with boiling russet potatoes. The dessert has been decided. I will be making an ice cream loaf cake. It'll be layering soy ice cream with crushed chocolate wafers.Hard shell topping and vegan whipped cream will decorate it.Should there be s'mores? Maybe next time.

Barbecue season is here.Let's hope it literally doesn't go up in smoke.Let"s hope it's a season of good food and good fun.

Pick Your Party

What kind of holiday will you throw? Cozy and fun? Elegant and catered?Outdoorsy and fun? Indoorsy and quiet? There are many ways to play this. It's up to you on how and what to serve.

Many Christmas parties are family  and friend affairs. A fun one is a potluck dinner. Everyone can bring this favorite dish , whether savory or sweet.Make sure that they're are no duplicates unless the recipes somewhat differ. No one  wants every dish to be pasta based. If someone's signature dish is already taken , then suggest their second or third favorite recipes. Some areas are blessed with mild Decembers. Think about an outdoor party, complete with a barbecue.eschew the heavy winter dishes and think summery potato salads and slaws. Instead of cookies, think a hot chocolate s'more where dark chocolate is subbing in for milk chocolate and then sprinkled with cinnamon.Have plenty of outdoor lights on since it gets dark early. A tree trimming party is another option. This is an informal one so think a crockpot of tomato sauce with a big pot of any kind of pasta simmering on the stove or chili, poured over piping hot polenta. Guests can bring  dessert, namely homemade cookies. You can
even have a cookie contest with prizes. Create stockings  filled with Peeps marshmallow trees , along with chocolate and peppermint bark for kids (and any adult with a sweet tooth).

Then there's the elegant route. This is time to get out the good or holiday themed china along with name cards and a slew of utensils gracing plates and chargers.. It' tempting to set the table with poinsettias but these can be too big, obscuring guests' faces. Think something small and classic such as a quartet of white and red roses in small square vases. You can work with a florist to achieve this. (there is also a great company, Venus Et Fleur that can create these with perfectly preserved roses) . Start with two or three amuse bouches. These can be shot glasses full of gazpacho followed by Camembert bonbons and small skewers of grape tomatoes and mozzarella cheese , with a balsamic drizzle. As  for dinner, you could go for a standing rib roast or roast capon. Think grilled asparagus with lemon  or roasted squash with thyme and onions for sides.  Also having a simple side salad with a plain vinaigrette dressing is a must.Dessert can be that American classic - baked Alaska using aquafaba  on trend right now. Even more impressive is croquembouche , a  pyramid of cream puffs, filled with chocolate ganache and champagne cream.

There;s a variety of party types to choose from. There's no right or wrong choice. - just your choice. Have fun planning and throwing it.

Etsy's Sweet Side

Many know Etsy as that cool place to buy cool artesanal jewelry and hand crafted home design ware and clothing. Others (such as myself) use it for handmade mineral cosmetics and lotions. Yet many - incluing me -didn't know that you cn buy all sorts of home made treats. Yup, Etsy is also the coolest treat store too.

I first stumbled upon Etsy's sweet side while probably looking for homemade fudge. The food and beverage section is hard to find. It's not obvious as it is on other web sits such as Amazon or Target You have to first go to Home and then the Food And Drink . There are all sorts of categories, from soups, to herbs, spices and seasonings to baked goods to candies. There's even a section on recipes. The last can be a money maker for any home chef.A Scottish home chef is charging  almost three dollars a recipe for a kind of vanilla fudge called tablet (and as we all know we can get this free on any candy making or Scottish heritage website). Someone else  is charging for vintage cherry and strawberry recipes as well.I'd rather get the actual item than the actual recipe. Home chefs can buy ingredients such as ground capiscum and vanilla beans  along with all kinds of salts and garam masala. Here you can even find the ingredients for making gin.

Etsy also has a wide variety of ready made treats. You can try a huge flavor assortment of cupcakes at the Mississippi based The Dessert Cafe. They also have brownies , from plain to mint to a wide range of oatmeal cookies. I stumbled not on fudge- but on handmade flavored marshmallows from Sweet Jumbles in Jersey City.
These are the strawberry. I also bought the coffee as well as the peppermint (which looks like bloodied gauze) I thought about popping them all in hot cocoa bit they're huge, pillowy types.I have bought chocolate graham crackers which I may make  fancy s'mores with soon.

Etsy is the place for finding all sorts of gourmet goodies. Yes, you can get one of a kind Spanish leather bracelets and lotions that smell like spun sugar. You can also real spun sugar too.
