A Tailgate Around The World

It's tailgate time and that means , tasty foods. It;s a lot of the same old dishes  - namely barbecue and classics such as hamburgers and hot dogs. However it;s time to put some spice - literally in the dishes.

Tail gating already has international foods. There are hot dogs,  and hamburgers from Germany along with pizza from Southern Italy. Yet its' time to add a little more interest and a little more zing. Yes, the German classics are always welcomed and delicious when grilled outdoors, but think about another Deutch land  treat - bratwurst. It;s has a ilkd porky favor, richly layered with such spices as nutmeg, coriander and marjoram. Grill these and serve on a long roll with mustard or sauerkraut. Have it with a beer  for more of an Oktoberfest vibe. Currywurst is another German import that's perfect for tailgating and even fall barbecues. It has a both savory and sweet taste from a tomato base and such curry  spices as cumin and ginger. It's good on a toasted bun with a relish on top. For real Indian treats try samosas. These are crispy and fried (they can be air fried in the parking lot), This would be the rare vegan tailgate dish thanks to the samosas being filled with peas and potatoes. Another deep or air fried treat is falafel from the MidEast, This too is vegan and made from chickpeas..It can be served as a stuffing for pita or as kebabs.

If you're craving meat, then think of Chinese bao buns. They're filled with pork or beef along with soy sauce and lemongrass.Tacos from Mexico also make for good tailgate snacks. These can be filled with anything , from vegan options like beans and sliced avocados to beef , pork, chicken or shrimp. Bring squeezy bottles of  sour cream and salsa to squirt on top. Have containers full of chopped tomatoes and shredded cheese too. Ceviche is another spicy treat that's perfect for tailgate dining. This Peruvian classic is shrimp cooked in lime juice and often mixed with onions chili peppers and cilantro Enjoy with a good Peruvian beer like Piscal or  Cusquena.Another fun tailgating dish is from Italy. It;s antipasto skewers. Imagine the best antipasto  all on a stick.Think about layering such cured meats  as pepperoni,  and salami ,mozzarella, olives and grape tomatoes. For coooler tail gate days, think the Candian poutine, French fries and  cheese curds drenched in a hot, creamy gravy. The last is a thick beef stock while the curds are white cheddar. (you can sub in slices of cheddar with this).

It's tailgating season. Liven it up with international foods. They're a fun way to add zest and zing to the most American of gatherings.

Bulgarian Cooking A Hybrid Cuisine

Bulgaria is one of those countries that's off the beaten path on European tours. However it's an interesting place with an even interesting cuisine. Mix Greek and Slavic tastes and flavors with a pinch of exotic and it comes out Bulgarian. From salads to sweets, it 's a interesting array of dishes.

Bulgaria lies between Greece ,Serbia, Romania and Turkey. These countries , surely have had a hand in creating the national cuisine. There were native people there from the very beginning as well ans their recips have been passed down in various meat dishes and cheese. It's famed for its' rich salads  which accompany every meal. They even have a special Easter salad for their Bulgarian Orthodox Easter which features sliced boiled eggs. There is even one whimsically named Snow White because most of the ingredients are white. They also eat a lot of yogurt, first enjoying it as far back as 3,000 years ago. Cheese also plays an important part in the Bulgarian lifestyle. There are many varieties

Thanks to a strong Turkish and Greek influence kabobs are a big part of Bulgarian cuisine. Lamb ones figure prominently in dinners and street fare.Meatballs also make up some dishes whether as a main dish or an addition to soup. The Bulgarians love cold cuts and their spicy salame, lukanka is one of the most popular. It is a blend of pork and beef with a good dose of black pepper, cumin and salt. There is also sujuk which is a milder version but has a slight kick thanks to red pepper. fish is also popular and it's either baked in flaky pastry or grilled.

Bulgarian cooking represents the hybrid dishes of its' more dominent neighbors. However it blends the tastes of its' own people to create a cuisine that is both interesting and bold.

Happiness Is A Hot Instant Meal

There;s nothing like coming home to a hot, steaming pot pie or lasagna. Unfortunately these take a lot of time and effort to make, not to mention having all the ingredients at hand. Luckily this is the modern age where we can cook wholesome meals in just minutes. They're still the same as what our moms and grannies made - but quicker. Much quicker.

A good dinner (or even lunch) here in the States is pot pies. This American classic was one of the first TV dinners back in the Fifties and it's still going strong. Pot pies are wonderful because they has everything, They're basically meat, veggies and even bread all rolled into one crusty, yummy, juicy pie. Serve them with a salad and it's a full meal. Some fast food chains such as Boston Market offer a delicious, homestyle version that's the size of a small pizza.Another instant favorite is pizza itself. A lot of brands such as Red Baron and California Kitchen offer individual ones that you can buy in your freezer section. Nowadays they have so many different toppings, from the exotic artichoke to the much loved pepperoni, Again add some salad to instant pizza and even a glass of red wine and you've got a great meal to come home to.

Comfort food can be made in a sec these days too. There are plenty of instant baked macs out there. One of my favorites is Stop and Shop's house brand. It's a perfect blend of tiny elbow macaroni with a creamy cheddar sauce. The cheese is thick and it evenly coats every piece of pasta perfectly. I just love it and for me it's the best dinner after a tough day. Potato pancakes, another soothing comfort food are easy to make now thanks to so many brands offering instant versions. Gone are the days of grating potatoes and onions and then mixing them with eggs to form the perfect round. These are just pop into the frying pan or microwave and then serve with sour cream or applesauce.

Happiness is coming home to a hot meal. More happiness is making it in just minutes. Nowadays it's easy thanks to all the great instant dinners out there. It's nice to have homemade things if you have the time. However the frozen stuff can offer the same sort of comfort without all the fuss and bother.
