A dump dinner may not sound too tasty but it's actually a flavorful melange of meats, veggies and spices. It's an easy way to create lunch or dinner without so much fuss. Best of all, it requires very little prep time.

What is a dump dinner exactly? It's basically where you dump everything in a crockpot or Insta Pot and cook for a few hours. There's no elaborate cooking where you have to use everything from a bain Marie to a skillet. Prep time is a snap too,.It just cutting the ingredients into chunks, sometimes adding liquids and always adding spices. Another plus is that even tweens and teens can make dinner , freeing up their parents to do other household chores or errands.Another plus is that dump dinner ingredients can be bought in bulk, saving money along with being perfect for freezing. Many dump dinner affectionados make soup. It's an easy cook and an easy freeze. Try chicken soup, filled with the old fashioned goodness of  chicken, broth and carrots. You can turn it into a minestrone by adding tomatoes and chickpeas , along with some kind of small pasta and spinach. A comforting potage, especially during these blustery days is a dump potato soup.it's taking Yukon Gold potatoes and cooking them with chicken broth, onions and garlic.  After cooking it can be topped with crumbled bacon and sour cream. Best of it it can be frozen to be eaten on those days when cooking is impossible.

There are also dump dinners (which can be turned into dump lunches too.). Stews are the easiest to make because it's just chopping and tossing. A beef stew is always a good choice. Give it an Italian spin by adding diced tomatoes and a variety of other veggies such as zucchini bell peppers , celery and potatoes. Tomato paste and  red wine vinegar are also added. Make it even more heartier by adding some pasta such as gemelli or rotelli to the mix. The beef and beef broth can be cooked and vegetable broth subbed in to create a hearty vegan soup. Use chickpeas for protein.A sure fire pleaser is turkey breast. It can be flavored with lemon garlic or a  turned into a spicy one with dried mince garlic and paprika. Super Healthy Super Bowl

Tomorrow is one of America's biggest food days after Thanksgiving.  That means everyone from New York to LA , from Maine to Hawaii are going to be stuffing themsleves silly. It's a day when calories and pounds are crazily packed on. However Super Bowl Sunday can be  a day to be careful and eat with a watchful eye.

Most fans don't realize that they can have just as much fun with some healthy choices as they can with unhealthy ones. For example, that staple wings can be even better for you if they're baked or roasted. You do  have to use olive oil for moisture but that's it. The result is even better than fried wings  with tender meat and a crispy skin coating.Another Super Bowl must have are sliders. Most foodies love theirs  made from pure beef or pulled pork on buttered and toasted rolls. A much healthier alternative is turkey burger or pulled chicken. Of course you can sub in veggie burgers and there is even a vegan version of pulled pork that tastes exactly like the real thing. Sub in  unbuttered whole wheat buns for white for more goodness.

Most fans would agree that pizza is one of the best heart healthy foods to eat during any game. Yes and no.  Pizza can be healthy if the toppings are roasted veggies or even chicken. However everyone loves theirs piled with pepperoni and sometimes steak. Some companies and privately owned pizzerias offer ones with double stuffed crusts that ar e just super  loaded  with cheese. Keep the game pizza simple, with an option of onions , peppers and mushrooms as toppings. A pie also tastes better with extra sauce as opposed to extra cheese. Also suppliment that slice with salad. You won't reach for a third or fourth slice if you have greens with the first or second.

Tomorrow is a big food day however make it a healthy eating day. Make choices that are winning. You'll score one for the home team your body if you do.

Soaks and Cokes

There’s a wonderful tradition in the both the American Midwest and the South , where pulled pork sandwiches and Coca Cola are paired up.It’s called soaks and Cokes. You can have these two by themselves or with chips or cole slaw on the side. All in all they make for a great lunch, dinner or even snack.

Pulled pork is pretty easy to make. It’s just basically slow cooked pork shoulder or roast , well marinated and heated for sixteen hours . The fat is then drained off for a less greasier meat. A bottle of store bought barbecue sauce is added and usually an onion for more flavor. You can do the same with chicken in about twenty to thirty minutes. The barbecue sauce is then added and the whole thing is cooked up. Yet a true soak is made with pork for a more distinctive flavor and texture.

What kind of bread should you use? A true soak should have a soft hamburger bun so it can soak up the sauce hence the name. You can also use white bread however this can get too soggy and maybe too messy. Don’t use crusty rolls like the Kaiser roll or French bread. The bread shouldn’t be too chewy. Another no no is no toasting or buttering the roll. This interferes with the taste and the texture. Add a nice cold icy Coke and you’re done.

There’s nothing like a Coke and a soak for a good meal. Enjoy the two together and how they complement each other. There’s nothing like them for flavor and fun!
