Dinner By Lidl

You can have a really nice meal without paying too much. How is that possible in this excpensive day and age? Lidl. The store has great deals on just basic dishes. best of all the fodo is pretty delicious.

I've been wanting to make the Vemondo vegan patties I bought them a while ago and finally had the chance to try them.I paired them with Lidl's mashed cauliflower for a tasty Saturday supper.

Both were an easy cook, (although they had to be cooked at different times due to having one electrical outlet). Here were the patties. They're more oval than round and very thick, almost like salmon steaks.

It took fifteen minutes in teh air fryer at 360 degrees Farenheit. Again their thickness was responsible for the long cooking time. They were flipped over after seven minutes of cooking.

They were a little crispy and burnt but not bad.

It has a lovely red pepepr flavor and a good texture and mouthfeel. I liked the crispy exterior. Again it kind fo reminded me of a salmon patty.
As for the cauliflower

It came out in these cute little cups. It sort of looks like sliced bananas. It was ten minutes in the microwave.
The chunks had retained their shape despite being cooked. Here they look kind of like a meringue topping. It was just a quick stir and they resembled creamy mashed potatoes
It was very good. with a fresh from the garden taste.I just added a little of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter as I do with anything mashed. I would definietely get both th e patties and cauliflower again. These made for a tasty and filling dinner.

Choose Lidl for your next dinner. They hav a wide array of good foods that cna be prepared easily and quickly. Try their vegan patties and mashed cauliflower and taste a good flavorful dinner.

Dad Cooking

Thanks to this pandemic, dads all over the world are participating in the daily cooking chores. Usually relegated to the kitchen , fathers are now coming into their own as home chefs. They're cooking and peeling and even baking!! Are they even better than the mom cooks?? Maybe!!!

One of the most loved and often made dad recipes is the one for pancakes. It's the easiest recipe and the one that probably impressed mom when they were dating. It's a mix of just all purpose flour, baking powder and sugar mixed with two eggs a tablespoon of oil along with two cups of milk. Of course dads like to add extras like chocolate chips or bacon. Sometimes it's a mix of both, much to the delight of the little ones. The recipe can be ramped up a bit by turning the pancakes into cups. The ingredients are the same, with the addition of vanilla, It's then dividing the batter equally into the muffin cups about one third filled, and baking them in a 400 degree F oven thirteen to fifteen minutes. The kids can fill them with whatever they want - eggs, bacon, ham, or go sweet with a puddle of butter infused maple syrup or healthy bits of berries and melons. Waffles are another Dad specialty. They're a great way to greet the morning or a fun lunch when paired with fried chicken. Again, it's sort of the same recipe for pancakes, but dry yeast is added for rise. For a different spin add such fruit as strawberries or blueberries. These would make a great dessert with ice cream too.

Lunch and dinner can now be dad domains too. Where is any man the most comfortable? Behind the grill. This is the time to get out the barbecue, clean it off and fire it up. Let the man of the house have free reign with what's going to be placed over the coals. Odds are he'll come up with some tasty recipes and renditions of backyard classics. Think bacon cheeseburgers, with thick hand made burgers and topped with pepperjack cheese. Dads usually layer on extras so expect burgers to have extra slices of tomatoes, pickles and even special sauce.Of course there has to be hot dogs, A dad recipe would be splitting them open on the grill for crisp edges and then filling them with melted cheddar or chili or both.Vegan and vegetarian dads can also do their meatless versions by using Beyond Meat burgers and Morningstar Farms Veggie dogs. You can even do bacon burgers by adding Morningstar Farms, soy bacon strips and cheese dogs filled with Chao's vegan cheese slices. End the meal with the ultimate cookout dessert - s'mores. Change it up a bit by adding bacon or by using chocolate graham crackers.

Let dad cook for this time together. It'll be a fun meal, loaded with everyone's favorite ingredients. Father knows best when it is time to make breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Natural Vs Chemical Kitchen Cleaners

Maybe more so than the bathroom, the kitchen is the dirtiest and messiest room in the house. This is the place where oil gets splattered and  mud gets scattered. It's a smelly fridge competing with a smelly sink. Kitchens need constant cleaning - and here is the dilemma - do you go for the safe all natural cleansers, versus the heavy duty super efficient industrial ones.

Everyone wants a clean and sparkling kitchen. Yet who has the time to whip up a natural cleanser when it's easier to go out and buy a bottle? The problem is that many cleaners have a whole host of bad for you chemicals.Any product that boast's it's antibacterial should be given a second glance. It's probably chock full of quarternary ammonium compounds or QUATS. Firstly they help in creating antibiotic resisting bacteria which can be lethal to the very young, very old and the immune challenged .On top of that , they are responsible  for creating asthma. What do you sub in then? Tea tree oil mixed with a tablespoon of vinegar and water can do the trick. Bleach can work too, as with hydrogen peroxide. Just wear old, ratty clothes when you're working with the last two. Bleach can get all over and there is a tendency to wipe our hands on our jeans after we clean (I know do). Even a tiny drop can ruin denim.

Bleach is my go to for cleaning the kitchen sink however I found another natural cleanser that also does the trick.Apple cider vinegar and baking soda  together has been my preference for cleaning stubbornly greasy pans . I thought , well if it works for metal, it could work for porcelain. It did. Use about a quarter of a cup of baking soda over the surface. Add about half a cup of vinegar over the baking soda. Stand back and enjoy the foamy reaction (really the best part of it) and then wipe down with a sponge. The result is the same as the bleach cleaning - a sparkling white and clean surface. Remember that baking soda is also very good at removing tea and coffee stains from cups and mugs.
As far as removing mold from underneath drying racks, I'd go with the bleach. Black mold can be very difficult  and bleach has the power to get rid of it.  You could use vinegar - white works well with an old toothbrush  to scrub it away. That is if you have the time.It can be labor intensive, however.

What's the best cleanser for your kitchen? Natural or chemical? Natural if you have the time to clean. However some of the chemical ones do come in handy when you;re pressed for time. Use whatever works for a clean , sparkling kitchen.
