Friday Night Mash Ups
Friday means the end of the busy work week. Some celebrate by going out with friends and co workers, others order in pizza or Chinese. However there are the stalwart home chefs who still want to cook. Yet what's there to make? A week of leftovers can provide chefs with some interesting new creations. The best part is that they're easy to make , even better it's a home cooked meal, enjoyed with family.
If you have left over meat, whether chicken or steak, cut it up into bite sized pieces and make it the protein in chopped salad. This is an easy mix of leftovers and canned veggies Add already chopped fresh salad along with some sesame seeds and croutons for crunch and texture. It's also a great way of getting rid of eggs. Hard boil them and then slice them. Eggs can also be made into egg salad for sandwiches. Amp them up by serving them on croissants bought from the local Dunkin Donuts.Ham and chicken salad are also easy to make , especially if you use devilled ham or chicken and mayo. You could also make this with any leftover roasts too. What about those cold cuts used for brown bag lunches? Heroes! Create a truly great one with all those salami, cappicola and prosciutto slices. Add tomatoes , along with different cheeses for a simple yet fun dinner.A chef 's salad is another way of getting rid of those uneaten slices.
A lot of sides can also be repurposed into main meals .Mashed potatoes can be turned into mouth watering croquettes Take spoonfuls of mashed potatoes and mix with beaten eggs (use one egg for every cup of mash) , and parsley. Roll into balls and them roll into breadcrumbs. Using your palm, smash them lightly and fry in oil or margarine. Serve with dipping sauces. Leftover rice can be repurposed this way too, in the form of arancini or little oranges in Italian. As with the potatoes, mix in egg and bread crumbs and fry until crisp. You can put ham or mozzarella in he center for more flavor. This is a great recipe for getting rid of leftover risotto. Leftover corn can be made into a yummy chowder along with being turned into a cold salad. All those veggie sides can be cooked together to create a vegan stew. Just add tomato paste to stretch it and give it more flavor. serve it with crusty French or Italian bread for dipping.
It's Friday! Time to get creative with all those leftovers from the week past. Make a fun salad or spread or a tasty stew everyone will love!

Lucky Foods For Friday The 13th
Today may be the case to avoid ladders and broken mirrors, but you can follow food superstitions to to have a lucky day . There are a few revolving around Friday the 13th, some are different, some rooted in truth.NIbble your way to good fortune by following them.
Most lucky foods are associated with New Year's however they're easily transferable to today's date..If you want to keep your money or make more then eat lentils, In Italy ,as in other countries the beans resemble gold coins so a meal made of them will bring good luck. On their own they're good for your health. They lower cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar.Another bean is the black eyed pea. It's usually considered a good luck food to have on New Year's Day but you can have them any day, cooke din lard or butter.Eat them anyway for the fiber content and for a dose of potassium.
Besides being downright delicious they're also good for your heart. The Spanish munch on grapes usually twelve on New Year's Eve but you can also have a handful of them on any Friday the 13th. Any kind of grape is a good snack, rich in iron and reservatol, an important phytonutrient that can lengthen one's life.
There are other food superstitions too, mostly coming out of lore.Never gift someone with a knife , let them pay for it, even if it's with a single penny. Bread usually considered wholesome and good has a dark side Slice it open to see if it has a lot of holes, If there are air bubbles, look out, those are portents of bad times ahead. To prevent this slice open a garlic clove to ward off the evil juju (along with scaring off vampires). Spilling salt can also bring about bad luck. To prevent this grab a pinch and sprinkle over your left shoulder. If you want a date for tomorrow night, then give the person you like oranges. They supposedly can make that person fall in love with you.Conversely never pour that person a cup of tea with the milk going first That will curse them and they will never get married. Better off giving them a cup of cappuccino. Bubbles in coffee means that money is coming. The more bubbles the more moolah, something to think about when you're at Starbucks.
Superstition is a funny thing. Many believe in it, especially when it involves food or drink. Do what you want on this day Friday the 13th to make your day lucky.

Friday Night Fun Dinners
Friday nights should be full of fun; They're the end of a hard work or school week. There should be a celebration of sorts, namely in the form of some kind of equally as fun supper.Forget the meat loaf and sensible sides. Live a little , from starters to dessert.
For decades families have celebrated Friday night with pizza. They're still doing so.Nothing beats a fresh from the oven pie, rich with tomato sauce and gooey mozzarella cheese. There are still pizzerias that make home deliveries however home chefs can also make their own. Many pizzerias will sell just plain dough to be baked at home.If you're adventurous you can definitely create a fun version using everyone's favorite toppings. There's nothing wrong with a chicken pepperoni mix or onions and steak. Seafood lovers can put crab and shrimp on theirs to create a pizza de frutti e mare. Vegetarians can use soy mozzarella as well as fun veggies such as onions , broccoli and peppers. Even edaname or soy beans can be sprinkled on top. You can also make mini pizzas as starters as well as inside out ones. This last is made by putting a spoonful of tomato sauce and olive oil along with a ball of mozzarella on a rolled out piece of dough . Cover with another piece of pizza dough and bake until golden. For an entirely different spin try spring rolls. They can be bought or made and be stuffed with all sorts of fun fillers. Try baby shrimp and cabbage together or minced pork and red peppers. Have dishes of soy , duck and hoisin sauce on the ready for dipping.
If you've had a staid Friday night dinner then go wild with dessert. Chocolate fondue is a great ender, plus it brings the family together as everyone go for some communal dipping. Have bowls filled with cut up strawberries and bananas for something healthy and for something wicked think marshmallows, along with cubed brownies and pound cake. You can also try a caramel fondue by melting caramel and dipping in apple slices and even pretzel rods.Even though it's January , ice box cakes can still rule.A favorite and easy one to make the night before is the chocolate log, made with chocolate wafers and Cool Whip. Banana pudding cake is another neat Friday night dessert. Again this is simple to construct ,especially when you use instant vanilla pudding.Make Jello stained dessert squares for a party like ending. This involves first making three or four different flavors of Jello in Pyrex pans, then cutting them in cubes and then mixing them in a blend of unflavored gelatin and condensed milk. The result are confetti colored squares of glistening jewel like squares. If this is too much for you, then stick with the tried and true sundae bar. Have two or three kinds of ice cream with different toppings and syrups along with Reddi whip.
Celebrate TGIF with Friday fun dinners and desserts. You and especially the kids will appreciate a visit to a culinary party. It's the end of the week. Have fun!!!!!!

Casual Friday - Eat Whatever
Fridays have gone casual even in eating. What used to be a restrictive day for Catholics (fish only) and some other religions is now just relaxed as any Saturday. Some office allow their employees to work during their lunch hours to get out early. Some work places offer free breakfasts and lunches as a way of saying thanks. Anyway you look at it, Fridays are days to gear up for the weekend and enjoy food.
All you can eat buffets are big with everyone on the last work day of the week. That's the day I usually go to my local one and I've noticed a swell in customers. There's no waiting for a table when I've gone on a Tuesday or Saturday with my Mom and brother. It seems people want to celebrate the end of their work weeks with a big plate of chicken or shrimp. I've also noticed longer lines in some of my town's fast food joints. There may be a recession but people still want that Friday treat of a hamburger , fries and a Coke. I'm sure there are folks who are still brown bagging it. Hopefully they're putting little luxuries like avocado salad or Dove chocolates in those little brown bags of theirs.
Another trend is eating out Friday night. It was always a traditional night to send out for pizza or Chinese. It still is. My favorite pizzeria reports that take out sales are brisk during this night. Food courts are packed and not just with bored teens. It seems now entire families from grandparents to the stroller set are chowing down at their local mall.
Fridays are now associated with anything casual. That includes eating, from buffets to food courts. This is the new way of celebrating a hard week of labor and toil.
