Lose That Holiday Fat

The worst thing about January is dealing with all that post-holiday fat and bloat. The best thing is making a resolution to eat better and healthier. It's just  matter of adjusting and making wise choices.

We're probably all cookied and candied out. After all, our nibbling involves every kind of holiday cookie, from sweetly decorated sugar cookies to homemade chocolate chip with maybe a few shortbread and oatmeal types thrown in. It's tempting to continue this, for dessert or snacking. Resist. Thanks to the wonder of importing, we can buy all sorts of fresh fruit, from blueberries to pineapples. Finish a meal with some watermelon or cantaloupe chunks. Snack on some blackberries or grapes. If you don;t want to deepen your carbon footprint by buying any of these imports, then think about canned fruit in water or a light syrup. Also, a cup of hot cocoa,is only one hundred fifty calories. Have it with low fat whipped cream for a decadent dessert Better yet , consider yogurt as a nice alternative. Yoplait has those mousse like Whips which taste and feel like a more decadent dessert.Chobani has the fun flips, a mix of yogurt, nuts and chocolate or fruit. It's a way to indulge that sweet tooth without gaining a  pound.

Chobani also has saviory yogurt mixes, perfect for those of us who still crave holiday party chips and dip.Their new Meze style dip is a smart combo of veggies and Greek yogurt. Best of all they 're only twenty-five calories  and have only ten fat calories. The flavors range from roasted red pepper to chili lime to three peppers to Parmesan onion. Dip the ever low calorie Triscuit in them for some crunchy fun. Pretzels also make a good low-calorie snack too as does popcorn, During the holidays we tend to reach for sodas or mixed cocktails to celebrate. All that sugar will only add on an extra jeans size. Go back to water and seltzer. They 're also much more refreshing, even on a chilly day.Go for refreshing and calming herbal teas after a season of pumpkin spice or peppermint lattes. After three months of ingesting basically liquid cake,a soothing cup of chamomile or green peppermint is a nice way to end a busy day It's also a good time to go back to eating, healthier meals, Instead of continuing with gravy laden holiday roasts. Think a lower calorie ratatouille instead of roast beef or turkey with gravy. if you want still want roast, think of a chicken with rosemary and no gravy.

The holidays were culinary  fun  but it's time to get back to decent eating again. This means better and wiser choices with nutritious foods and drinks. Not only will you feel better but lighter too,

Greek Yogurt - Yasou To Healthy Eating

For the past few years Greek yogurt has been the star of dieting. People rave about its; benefits and its's flavor. Is it a good replacement for regular milk as claimed? Is it just as tasty? Both answers are a resounding yes!

There are many benefits to going Greek. It is a probiotic which means it helps to keep producing good bacteria in your gut.it helps to lessen the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, Chrohn's disease and ulceritive  colitis. It's also good for lowering blood pressure thanks to calcium, magnesium and potassium, vital minerals needed to maintain healthy blood pressure numbers. This combo of minerals also aid in promoting strong bones and preventing osteoporosis. Many think it's just the first that helps our internal frames, but the other two are just as important.  One of the best boons to eating Greek yogurt is that it helps you to feel full and not be hungry all the time.It has double the amount of protein that regular dairy has.It takes the body twice as long to digest it then and it's great in curbing the appetite.Have it with lunch or as a part of dinner to stop those afternoon or evening munchies.Lactose intolerant people need to have this in their lives. It's lower in lactose than regular milk and the probiotics in it help to break down those lactic sugars. For those wondering why Greek yogurt is better than regular dairy the answer is in its' origins. It comes from ewes as opposed to cows, Sheep's milk is better for you on so many levels. It doesn't cause allergies  and has a greater concentration of  essential fatty acids.

What is the best Greek yogurt? I like Fage (pronounced fy-hee) myself . The plain makes a great sub for sour cream as I recently found out with a baked potato. It not only is lighter in taste and texture, it's truly delicious. It's not as overpowering as the real thing, and makes for a tastier spud. I plan on using it for making onion dip with fresh onions perfect with baked potato chips,It will also be good as a topping for homemade tacos too, as well as being added to mashed potatoes and squash  It can be used in baking too, much like sour cream. It produces a much more even crumb and even taste. Some Greek yogurt enthusiasts love Chobani. This yogurt is the more boutique of the crew with a line called Chobani Flip which  has sriracha blended with mango and chipotle mixed with pineapple. There is also another line that combines the trendy ancient grains with the yogurt as well as with fruit and spices.I'm a fan of their Indulgents, fruit and yogurt mixed with dark chocolate flakes. It's a nice alternative to any ice cream or pudding dessert. Frozen yogurt  enthusiasts will enjoy Yasso. These are made by two non Greeks that appreciate good taste and healthy food. I love their  coffee chocolate chip and salted caramel. Every bar has either ten or twenty fat calories like the salt caramel and chocolate chip.I'm looking'forward to trying their mint chocolate chip  as well as their vanilla bean.

Greek yogurt is definitely the way to go. It has so many benefits as well as having a great taste and texture. Switch to it today and get started on  a healthier , better diet.

My New Love Greek Yogurt

I just happened upon Greek yogurt yesterday . I was looking for soy which my local A&P did not have and came across the Chobani brand. I had always heard a lot about the Greek style and how it was far more superior to the American. It was and after one cup I was instantly hooked.

Greek yogurt is far more creamier and thicker than regular yogurt. The reason being is that it's made with ewe's milk as opposed to cow's milk. The texture is ultra creamy like creme fraiche blended with sour cream. The taste is slightly a bit tarter than what I'm used too but still good. I like the fact that Chobodos does not put a lot of fruit in their yogurt. the peach only had a modicum of chopped peaches and the taste was not overwhelmingly fruity (as it is with most American style yogurts) I also bought the blueberry and pomegranate and can't wait to try them.

I also plan on getting the plain variety too. Greek yogurt makes an excellent base for dips and is not as heavy as regular sour cream. It's also good, for baking and probably produces a richer cake. I'm looking forward t using it and other Greek varieties in my future cooking. It'll make a world of difference without a world of calories too. Plus it's a good source of calcium and an easy way to get it.

If you haven't already tried Greek yogurt do so. You'll be hooked by its' creaminess and creme fraiche flavor. It's a great addition to any diet and any kitchen!!!
